An optional retirement age by Allen Lockington

Since there is evidence of people dying before they get to 55 would the authorities consider an optional retirement age of 50? Many people live in mediocrity all their life and only settle down when they get their FNPF savings but by that time some can’t enjoy it because of sickness brought about through life style diseases or they don’t enjoy it at all, they are gone too soon. This option will open up lots of places for our young school leavers who are without jobs to get employed. Those who opt for this could already have a little business or farm going and the money will boost their already enterprising life. Many would also like to migrate but usually stick around until they retire. For those who are experts in their field, and if they opt for the early retirement, they will join a Think tank, where government can fall back on and only get an allowance when their services are required or do it for the love of it.
Furthermore many couples both work and also have children who are working and money earned would be more than enough for all of them. One of the couples could opt out while the other worked. Many civil servant-couples are on high salaries and have accumulated huge savings. The optional retirement age will be approved on a case by case situation for obvious reasons. Perhaps an open column discussion could be generated for more ideas.
We are always reminded that life is for living and live we must and we should enjoy what we have saved. But for those who are thinking of taking their money when they depart, they can work until their last breath.
