Fiji wins in Wellington by Allen Lockington

At around 10 am on Saturday we debated whether to mix our grog as soon as the Wellington Sevens started or to wait. One suggestion was to wait because it was going to be a long day. Some of the guys had unconvinced looks on their faces but agreed. Then the games started and it rained in Waiyavi. One guy said it was a good sign, we were being blessed. Then it stopped and the heat was worse. One thought that came to mind was, "Oh no its hell."
Anyway when our boys started we wanted them to just win all the balls and have no opposition. We wanted our boys to just walk all over the other teams. That way there would be no heart palpitations, we would sail right through all games. But that would not be exciting. Games that see sawed are the games to watch. One sided games are boring. And now no team is a walk over.
And then Samoa beat New Zealand and one huge sigh of relief and clapping was heard all over Waiyavi. “Vinaka Samoa well done.” Was what the guys said. “Now we don’t care who wins, as long as New Zealand is out. Taki.” A few of the guys clapped and asked for the biggest grog bowl my mate asked if we had a Tupperware. I said, “Sorry bro we’re not in Wainunu.” He is from there. The game progressed and then Samoa was to meet Fiji in the final. And when Fiji lost the ball to Samoa a few @#$%^% were heard. “Oe, I though you gang didn’t care who won the final.” One guy said.
“Seti seti, Fiji is going to win. But if Samoa wins its ok too.” And we won and one collective sigh of satiation and thanksgiving was heard again from all over Waiyavi.
Simply awesome, thank you boys. Let’s do it again in Las Vegas.
After the game ended, in normal circumstance we would have called it a night. But the excitement that had gotten a hold of us prompted another baby mix. Didn’t the grog taste good? Oh before I forget, could a representative from the Fiji Visitors Bureau or Tourism Fiji be part of the team when they travel the world. This is an opportune time to market Fiji. Let’s do it whether we win or lose.
