Cabinet has approved the development of a legal framework to protect the heritage sites considered to have the potential for listing as World Heritage sites in Fiji.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Education, National Heritage, and Culture and Arts, Filipe Bole.
Mr Bole said that Fiji ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in 1990 after its adoption by UNESCO in 1972.
“In doing so, Fiji has a role to play in World Heritage activities to ensure its international obligations under the Convention are met.
