Profitable Government entity celebrates 55 years of existence

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited the state owned entity, is celebrated its fifty-fifth birthday yesterday.
This iconic institution which was the premier communication provider in Fiji and the region had for the first time in its history made profits of half a million dollars last year.
FBCL is administered by a Board of three directors, currently chaired by Yaminiasi Gaunavou, while the day to day operations are managed by the Chief Executive Officer, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
FBCL’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said, “We are proud to reach a milestone.”
The company has plans to expand its services in terms of its quality, programmes and sound.
He also relayed that with its overwhelming performance, an increase of 26 per cent in profit also led to substantial bonus distribution to its staff.
He attributed that the company has implemented a lot of new resources and is looking at operating more on commercial basis thus generating more revenue for Government and focusing more on commercial lines.
Public Enterprise Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said he is hopeful that the company will continue to undergo innovative changes to ensure that it is more profitable and further improving FBCL’s profile in a marketplace which is highly competitive.
The line Minister whilst conveying his best wishes said, “FBCL is making a strong bid to operate commercially and this will initiate more takings for Government.”
The company is expected to deliver quality and efficient broadcasting services and return a good dividend to its shareholders.
