Solomon Islands: Doctors frustrated with lack of medical supplies

DOCTORS doing operation in the National Referral Hospital theatre are frustrated and likely to scale down some of the services there.

This is because there are insufficient supplies of drugs and medical items, which are essential for used during operations.

The drugs that are not enough are essential anaesthetic drugs and simple medical items like cotton wools, gauges, blood pressure machine and syringes.

Essential anaesthetic drugs are drugs used to put patient to sleep and relax patient during surgery.

The services that are likely to be scaled down are elective cases – these are booked cases referred from all the provincial hospitals.

Head of the Surgical Department Dr Dudley Baerodo said if they continue to experience the problem they will scale down some of the services.

“We are not planning to scale down our services but we cannot work in a condition that there are insufficient drugs and medical items,
