However the Nadi coach said they would not be taking any game lightly as they have to prove a point this tournament.

Tanivula said in the last two tournaments they had lost because the team always seemed to be playing catch up rugby.

"This is somethign that we cannot afford to do and the team knows it," he said.

"We have players that have matured well into their roles and so we have no excuses come this Friday."

Fiji is in Pool B with Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Australia.

Meanwhile Scotland coach Stephen Gemmell said they will be in to surprise many teams and Fiji is one of them who they will play in the opening pool match at 2:28pm.

Barring any upsets on Day One, Fiji will meet either New Zealand or South Africa in the Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.
