Stray dogs by Allen Lockington

Thank you to the SPCA for the 2010 dog license. I hope the Ministry of Agriculture will assist. I trust we in Lautoka will be able to get ours from the vet office in Lautoka.
Now that we have gotten the dog issue on a roll all citizens can be asked if they own a dog over six months old. This can be done when they come to pay city rates or water and electricity bills. Let’s start with the urban areas and slowly go to the rural areas. We can request FEA, town and city councils and the Water Authority to assist with the questionnaire. And customers can be advised into licensing their dogs. And they can also send in information on the stray dog problem in their area.
The schools can also assist. We could also ask the children if they have dogs at home and if they are licensed or not. My guess is children will not lie. Questionnaires can also be handed out at petrol stations and supermarkets. If we all pooled our resources and assisted we will bring down the stray dog problem.
Another suggestion is to lay bait that will render dogs sterile.
But to the SPCA thank you, the only problem now is for the people to respect the law.
