There is a new musical group in Waiyavi. They sing acapella. It’s called the “Mila mila na koli”. (The dog is itchy) There is a bunch of dogs that sit on the road side near our place and scratch. Most of them have no hair and we can count their ribs. Every now and then one will give a yelp and a yip when he scratches a sore on his body. When we wake up in the morning we have to be careful because we may stand on compact discs they leave for us on the road. Sometimes they are very generous and there are many. While this is happening dogs that are kept in their compound stand at the fence and gate to give backup vocals. Loosely translated it sounds something like this.
Verse 1
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
Yip yip yelp.
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
Yelp yelp yip.
Yip yip yelp.
Chorus
Bark, bark, bark.
Bark, bark, bark.
Cough, cough, cough.
Growl growl
Verse 2
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
Yip yip yelp.
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
Yelp yelp yip.
Yip yip yelp.
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3 (This is when humans come in amids the yipping.)
Hey, shut up.
Kwan you mongrels.
Go and bark somewhere else.
