A U.S. monitoring agency based in Hawaii says a 6.2-magnitude earthquake has struck in the South Pacific off the coast of Fiji.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage after the temblor hit.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was centred 90 miles (145 kilometres) northeast of Labasa on the island of Vanua Levu at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 kilometres). Vanua Levu is the second largest of the Fijian islands.
