The Suva City Council has lifted the ban on the sale of some cooked food at the Suva Municipal Market, however cooked mudcrabs, prawns, sea grapes, kaikoso, and pre-cooked BBQ remain banned.

The ban has been lifted on food baked in lovo such as – tavioka, dalo, falawa, Tivoli, vudi and other related food.

The vendors will also be able to sell cooked bila, corn (sila), Vakalolo (qalu) and Ivi.

The Council’s director health services Nacanieli Kotoiwasawasa says the decision was made after they held consultations with vendors on the process used to prepare these food.

Kotoiwasawasa says they also took into consideration the consequences the ban had on market vendors.

However he says the Council will closely monitor food handling and vendors will have to use hygienic practices while preparing and selling these food items.
