Former recipients who still owe money to the Public Service Commission Scholarship Scheme are advised to immediately contact the PSC Loans Recovery Unit to find out the status of their loans.
Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission, Parmesh Chand said last year, the Commission recovered a total of $3.079 million in outstanding loans.
With $11million still owed to Government by scholarship defaulters, Mr Chand said the Commission has on its part improved its processors of loan recovery through the creation of a bank account with the Bank of the South Pacific (BSP), making it easier for recipients to repay their student loans from any part of Fiji.
He said the sole purpose for the creation of the PSC Student Loan Scheme, is to give deserving students, an opportunity for a better life through financial assistance in attaining tertiary education and that recipients upon attaining employment are to advise the Loan recovery unit on their loan repayment schedules.
Mr Chand adds by repaying their loans, an opportunity for other needy students is provided under the Student Loan Scheme as part of Government’s overall effort in providing opportunities for higher education for deserving students.
