NZ acting Head of Mission to Fiji arrives

The New Zealand acting Head of Mission to Fiji Phillip Taula has joined the New Zealand High Commission in Suva following previous postings to New York and Jakarta.

He will will be responsible for a High Commission of 55 staff and in addition to consular work for New Zealand tourists and citizens in Fiji, the High Commission runs an extensive development assistance programme for Fiji, Tuvalu, and a number of regional organisations which will be looked after by Taula.

Mr Taula was officially welcomed to the Commission ywsterday afternoon with a Sevusevu ceremony performed by High Commission staff using a tanoa presented to the New Zealand Maori Queen by the former Prime Minister, Late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

He said that he is delighted to be in Fiji and is looking forward to working here. He said even his family is looking forward to joining him soon in Fiji.

Meanwhile, Fiji High Commission's First Secretary and Acting Head of Mission in Wellington, Mere Tora took up her post last month.
