A Leamington man is gearing up to tackle a mammoth 500km bike ride around Fiji.

Stuart Kimberley, 30, arrived on the island four years ago and hasn’t looked back. After arriving to take part in Tribewanted – an ambitious scheme to build a sustain a new community for locals and visitors – he went on to work in sports coaching.

Now he has set himself a challenge that has only been completed once before to raise £1000 for the Rotary Club of Lautoka.

The cash will be used to improve Lautoka Hospital.

He said: “Ultimately the aim is to raise £1000 but I also want to discover more of the wonderful culture and hospitality of Fiji.

“It is a test of mental, physical and emotional endurance and like most adventures it is the planning and training that is proving to be harder than the actual ride itself.”

The 481km ride, starting on September 27, should take five days to complete.

And while his bike has been supplied in Fiji most of Stuart’s accessories and training gear is from Mike Vaughan Cycles based in Kenilworth.
