Fiji Ambassador, Peter Thomson, presented his letter of credence to the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon at the United Nations in New York on 4th March, 2010.

Following the Secretary-General’s words of welcome, Ambassador Thomson gave assurances of Fiji’s commitment to play its full part in the work of the international community of nations.

He said Fiji had a proud record in the field of U.N. peacekeeping operations and was dedicated to maintaining this record.

In answer to the Secretary-General’s expressed interest in Fiji’s return to parliamentary democracy, Ambassador Thomson summarised the progressive process by which Fiji will go to General Elections in 2014, under new laws which will for the first time in Fiji’s history allow universal suffrage without regard to race.

Ambassador Thomson was accompanied to the Secretary-General’s office by Counsellor Luke Daunivalu and Second Secretary Esala Nayasi.
