The 2008 Olympic Day Run was held on Saturday 21st June in two centers - Suva & Nadi.
This year's run saw over 1200 participants in Suva and over 300 runners in Nadi, running in different categories.
In Suva the event started around 7.00am with the welcome Message from FASANOC President Mr. Lakhan, followed by stretching and Warm-Up exercises led by former Fiji Athletic Rep, Litiana Miller. The official opening was done by the Interim Minister of Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts, Youth and Sports, Hon. Filipe Bole. The IOC President’s Message was read by the Athletes Representative Lucretia Smith.
The rain at the start of the race did not deter the runners as they were all syched up and rearing to go.
The first across the finish line in the 2008 Olympic Day Run in Suva was Sanjay Kumar and Vishant Kumar of Nadi in a joint finish in 31.06 seconds.
The major lucky dip prize for Suva was won by Jone Taniela, a Form 4 student of Marist Brothers High School, who won himself a return ticket to Auckland with the courtesy of Air Pacific.
All participants who crossed the finish line were given the opportunity to win a Lucky Dip prize for themselves.
The 2008 Olympic Day Run offered a great opportunity for schools, sporting groups and teams from business houses, to enjoy the fun run with the family and friends in true Olympic spirit.
