  2. USP Cine Nite: 'Goodby Lenin'


     WEDNESDAY, 15 OCTOBER

    The Pacific Writer's Forum and the Alliance Francaise de Suva have set up a programme of monthly screenings at USP to enable USP students and the general public to experience the diversity and richness of world cinema.

    "Goodbye Lenin" (2004, 121 mins, Comedy, German with English subtitles) directed by Wolfgang Becker.  A young german boy pulls off an elaborate scheme to keep his mother in good health. 

    7:30pm, Hall N111, SPAS Building, USP Laucala Campus.  Admission: Free.




  3. A Winemakers Dinner


     WEDNESDAY, 15 OCTOBER

    Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in association with Matua Valley Wines proudly presents a Winemakers Dinner.  There will be pre-dinner drinks followed by a four-course degustation  menu.

  6. The Great Fiji Butterflyfish Count


    2008 is the International Year of the Reef (IYOR), and the whole world is going coral crazy over the coral reefs! Countries across the globe are holding special activities and programmes to raise awareness and help conserve the corals and the animals that live on them. Fiji’s special activity is The Great Fiji Butterflyfish Count. In November 2008 people from all over the world will come to Fiji to have fun counting Butterflyfish while diving, snorkelling or riding glass-bottom boats, and contribute their results to a Fiji -wide Butterflyfish Biodiversity project that will be published internationally. This is supported by the Fiji Government Departments of Tourism, Environment and Fisheries, and by the Fiji Visitors’ Bureau, as well as several reef conservation organisations. Special tourism promotions will concentrate on the week 2 - 8 November. This is an opportunity for people to get involved in celebrating and recording an aspect of Fiji’s amazing coral reef biodiversity!   7. Fiji Cancer Society "Bra Art": Competition


    The Fiji Cancer Society has organised a "Bra Art Competition" as part of their Breast Cancer Awareness Programme from Saturday, 25 October to Sunday, 2 November 2008. There will be two categories and classifications of the competition. These are the 'Make a Bra' Category and the 'Decorate a Bra' Category and participants are classified as adults and juniors for those below 15 years of age. Admission are F$5.00 for adults and F$2.00 for juniors. Entries closes on Wednesday, 22 October 2008 and Judged on Friday, 24 October 2008. All bras will be displayed at the Suva Civic Centre on Saturday, 25 October 2008.
