I refer to the Fiji Bati “merchandise” that had been sold on the internet.
I received an email that said for me to support our Fiji Bati rugby league team by ordering a Fiji Bati jersey for $10.00. Of course I wanted one but I questioned why it was so cheap because these jerseys don’t sell for less than $100.00. And in business terms it would be much higher because of the Bati’s recent success and popularity.
For ten dollars I can get a really good jumper from a second hand clothes shop, never a Fiji Bati jersey.
The people or organisation that thought up the idea of a $10 jersey is, or are very enterprising. I’m never against anyone making a quick buck as long as it is entirely from their own sweat.
Some people try to make money by hook or by crook with the emphasis being on the “by crook” side of that equation. We have video and music CD pirates, now we have this. The only people who should benefit are the boys in the team.
Having said that if the culprits are found, please don’t take them to the police.
Win or lose, when our heroes come back can we organise an exhibition game to raise money for charity. Two games will be played, the first using league rules and the other union rules.
And the culprits can be slotted into which ever team to play the entire 80 minutes of both games. But, if the culprits can form one team then they make up the third team to be played in a round robin competition. And at the end of the game they are free to go, because they will have gotten what they deserve. All proceeds realised will go to charity.
